Apprenticeship Success at Stiltz
Bradley’s Apprenticeship Journey
Q: Tell us a bit about your role and why you joined Stiltz
I chose the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship because I wanted a role where I could learn through experience while also getting involved with different areas of engineering.
The chance to build practical skills while working in a professional environment really stood out to me and felt like a great way to start my career.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day can involve lots of different things depending on the project. Since joining, I’ve gained experience in electrical, mechanical and design engineering, learning skills such as soldering, circuit board testing, fault finding, machining, CAD and pre-programming.
One of the things I enjoy is being involved in projects from start to finish. I might design something in CAD, move on to 3D printing or plasma cutting parts, and then help assemble the finished product myself.
Q: What have you enjoyed most or learned along the way?
Understanding how homelift systems work has probably been one of the biggest challenges, but also one of the most rewarding parts of the apprenticeship.
There’s always something new to learn and improve on, which has helped me build both my confidence and knowledge across different areas of engineering.
Q: What stands out about working at Stiltz?
From day one, everyone made me feel welcome and supported. The environment is professional but friendly, and there’s a genuine focus on helping apprentices develop and succeed.
There’s always someone willing to answer questions and help you learn, which makes a big difference when you’re starting out.
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering a similar role?
Always have a goal in mind and be willing to learn as much as you can along the way. The more experience and knowledge you gain, the more opportunities can open up in the future.
Looking ahead, I’d like to continue building my knowledge and eventually become an experienced electrical engineer.
